Andrea J. Burns earned her bachelor’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University in 1998 and her law degree from Widener University School of Law in May 2003.
She began her law career as a staff attorney at a nonprofit firm, where she successfully represented low-income clients in landlord-tenant disputes, and drafted wills, trusts and power of attorneys. She also provided healthcare advocacy for senior citizens and low-income families regarding Medicare, Medicaid, COBRA and other healthcare programs.
In 2011, Ms. Burns worked as an attorney at a personal injury, workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability firm headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She represented thousands of clients at all levels of appeal for Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims. She has also conducted more than 150 hearings before administrative law judges and secured over $724,000 in back payments for her clients.
She then served as a corporate compliance and development officer for a nonprofit health center in Mobile, Alabama, where she ensured that policies and procedures were being followed in accordance with the center’s standards of conduct. Ms. Burns also coordinated with other departments to identify areas of risk and trends and developed action plans for resolving identified issues.
Prior to joining Pond Lehocky Disability, Ms. Burns was a volunteer attorney for a nonprofit legal aid network in Mobile, Alabama, where she represented SSI clients in court and completed pro-bono work.
